Hello everyone! I hope your week is going well. If you live in North or South Carolina, I hope you have made it to safety and I pray God will help you through this terrible storm situation.
Last week as I wrote, we were preparing for the storm Gordon. However, it did not progress as predicted, for which we were grateful. We didn’t even get any rain.
We have been busy this week. My dad brought home a 5 gallon bucket of possum grapes on the vines. He wants possum grape jelly. Mom and I sat for hours picking those little grapes off the vines. They are small and don’t really taste good to me. They don’t have much in them other than a small seed. Mom cooked them down and strained the juice out to make jelly. Out of that 5 gallon bucket, she got almost one half gallon of juice. She’s making the jelly now.
If the possum grapes weren’t enough, the peas are making like crazy. We have picked and shelled peas twice this week. On Wednesday, mom picked 3 of the 6 rows and we shelled them. Then when dad got home from work, he picked the other 3 rows and we shelled them. Mom is putting them up today. So it has been busy on this homestead all week. I think the peas are about done and we told dad not to bring anymore possum grapes home. 🙂
